Baby books: Birth to 6 months

It’s never too soon to introduce books to babies. Some radical
thinkers in this area suggest starting at nine months old, but why
leave it so late? You could start at birth, making book-time equal
quality-time for you and baby.

Big Band, by Barbara Nascimbeni

A
lively group of friends cavort through this concertina book that
unfolds, zigzag style, to show animals gathering to play in a band.
Their instruments are hidden inside carrying cases, and these are
revealed under little flaps. The words are up-beat and rhythmical, there are
lots of sound effects, and overall it’s a joyous book that will put
you in a good mood – and hopefully your baby too.

Mum of four-month-old twins comments: “Both
my children like this book – I think they are responding to my
sing-song voice as I say the words.”
