New research shows parents are swapping the expense
and stress of holidaying abroad with little ones and choosing to
holiday in the UK. To help provide parents with fresh ideas on how
to keep the kids entertained, without spending a fortune, TV presenter
and new first time mum Amanda Lamb today helps launch The Little
Book of Holiday Fun in association with Halos N Horns, the kids’
range of fun shampoos and body washes.
The Halos N Horns research, carried out by OnePoll,
found three quarters of families will be spending their summer in
Britain this year. Around half are planning a main holiday in the
UK, while only a quarter (28%) are planning to holiday abroad -
down from 44% last year. Meanwhile, one in eight (13%) intend to
go on day trips instead of a longer holiday. Despite being best
known for Channel 4′s A Place in the Sun, Amanda Lamb says, “I love
holidaying in Britain it’s one of the most beautiful places in the
world”.
One of the key reasons more Brits are planning to
holiday in the UK is the tough economic climate – 48% of parents
say they can’t afford to go abroad. Additionally, parents remember
having great holidays in Britain when they were young and want their
kids to have the same experiences. Nearly half of the parents surveyed
(43%) say they don’t have to spend money to have a good fun holiday
in Britain; a third say nothing can beat the fun of building sandcastles
on the beach; whilst six out of 10 (62%) say doing lots of things
together and playing games with the kids is the key to family fun.
For 1 in 5 (18%) the secret is to ditch the TV and computer games.
Amanda Lamb says, “While I was growing up I spent
all of my holidays in the UK, most of them in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset
and Somerset. One of my fondest childhood memories is hunting for
treasure on the beach – my grandad would bury a coin or pebble in
the sand and challenge us to find it. I remember it gave my brother,
sister and I hours of fun, and it still makes me smile now. “Now
it’s my turn as a mum, and for our first holiday away with our daughter
we’re planning to stay on a farm in the West Country, and I can’t
wait to share the time and the experience with her.”
The Halos N Horns Little Book of Holiday Fun provides
parents with inspiring ideas, a mix of new and old favourites, to
keep kids entertained year-round, whether at home, on a family day
out or on holiday. The Little Book of Holiday Fun has it covered:
surviving the car journey (great news for the 42% of parents who
say travelling to and from the destination is the biggest holiday
nightmare); beach activities; swimming and splashing about; the
perfect family picnic; making the most of being outdoors year-round;
and inspirational ideas for rainy days and autumn activities. The
Little Book of Holiday Fun is available from www.halosnhorns.co.uk.
Wherever you are and whatever you’ve done, your mucky
little monsters will probably need a bath with some good clean fun
to round off the day …! The fruity-smells and bright colours of
Halos N Horns shampoos and body washes will help encourage kids
into the bath. Parents tend to love them too because many of the
ingredients that might irritate their little ones’ skin have been
removed, (such as SLS and Parabens) making them really kind and
gentle for delicate skin. It’s no more bath time battles, just good,
clean fun!
