With the launch of the Child Trust Fund (CTF), babyworld recognised that parents might need some guidance on how they work.
Children born on or before 2 January 2011 could get at least £50 to start their Child Trust Fund (CTF) account. Extra payments may also be paid in certain circumstances. For example, if you’re on a low income or your child has a disability.
The starting CTF payment
If your child was born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011, and you get Child Benefit for them, they could qualify for a CTF account and get one of the amounts shown below.
Babies born on 3 January 2011 or later, or before 1 September 2002, do not qualify for a CTF account and won’t get any CTF payments. You could get a higher starting payment if a local authority looks after your child.
- £250 Paid if both of the following apply:
- you first got Child Benefit (or a European Union family benefit) for your child on or before 2 August 2010
- your child was born on or after 1 September 2002 but before 3 January 2011
- £50 Paid if both of the following apply:
- you first got Child Benefit (or a European Union family benefit) for your child at any time between 3 August 2010 and 3 January 2011
your child was born on or after 1 September 2002 but before 3 January 2011
If you haven’t already made your claim for Child Benefit, don’t delay. Your claim can only be backdated by up to 3 months.
