About this test
Bath support seats are designed to provide a safe and comfy home for
your tot during bath time and are worth their weight in gold – especially
if you have an older toddler to wash at the same time.
Available in all sorts of innovative shapes and sizes, bath supports
keep your child safe in the water by supporting their back and head, with
a clever ergonomic shape that keeps most of their body immersed in the
water.
They also offer a hands-free method of bathing your child, meaning you
can get on with washing hair, playing games and preparing the towels without
having to support your baby.
Our panel have looked at six of the latest bath supports on the market,
from traditional lie down seats (‘great supportive shape that encourages
lots of splashing!’) to bath cushions (‘very comfortable and secure for
smaller babies’) and floating seats (‘so relaxing for baby’).
They agreed that comfort and safety are most important though they recommend
you consider space as some of the seats are narrower and therefore ‘provide
less longevity for your baby’.

Points to consider
Design
There are quite a few designs on the market so it’s worth having a think
about which style will suit you and your baby’s needs most. Lay flat designs
with a cushion base like the Easy Bath are
great for smaller babies but ‘when they want to see a bit more and start
kicking around, their use does wane slightly’. Our panel were impressed
with the ergonomic designs of the Blooming Marvellous
and Tigex bath seats- both offered ‘lots
of room for baby, with a brilliantly designed base that allows the water
to keep them warm with plenty of space to kick and splash’.
If you’re undecided on style, our panel recommend the Comfy
Bath ‘this works as a lie flat cushion for tiny babies but
has strategically placed snap fasteners that clip the seat into a sitting
position once your baby has more head and neck control’ .
Safety
Our panel had no quips with the safety level of the seats on test, ‘all
offered a good level of security for baby and prevented them from sliding
or moving around in the water’. If your baby is particularly small or
you require maximum safety, you might want to consider a seat with a mesh
side and headrest like the Mother’s Touch Deluxe
Baby Bather - ‘this provided maximum security in the water
and is ideal for newborns’.
Another feature to look for is suckers on the base of the seat that stick
it securely to the base of the bath. The Tigex
and Blooming Marvellous models
both had these and ensured that the seat stayed firmly put throughout
bath time.
Comfort
This is essential if you want your tot to be happy in the water! Our
panel recommend looking at the size of the seats before you buy as some
are ‘quite tight on space and therefore not great for bigger babies’.
The shaped seats like the Tigex and Blooming
Marvellous chair are great for security but if you’re tot is chubbier
than others, you might prefer to go for a more spacious option like the
Bathe Eze or Easy
Bath as ‘they offer more longevity and can be used until your toddler
can sit completely unaided’.
Extra Features Sun canopies, rain covers and footmuffs are just
some of the extra features you can expect to get with a lightweight. What
might initially seem like a good deal can be an expensive mistake if you
have to buy all the accessories separately so check up front what the
model includes.
Ease of use
It’s worth taking a look at the shape of the seat – especially if you
need to ensure minimum stress on your back following a c-section. Bending
low down in the bath to wash your child can be tiresome so avoid back
pains by opting for a model that raises your baby slightly like the Mother’s
Touch Deluxe or Tigex .According
to our panel both of these models ‘are shaped to be easy on your back
and don’t cause any strains when it comes to lifting your baby in and
out of the bath’.
Awards – which products won?
The Tigex bath seat won the Best Buy award
with our panel citing it as ‘a versatile, good all rounder that’s safe,
comfy and fun for baby’. Best Value was awarded to the Mother’s
Touch Deluxe Baby Bather seat
