PLAY FEATURES/ACTIVITIES

Xander’s views

I started playing with the Discovery Dome when I was about 17 months
and I think it has some great features to entertain busy toddlers
like me. When my mum put it together I couldn’t stop looking at
the different coloured fabrics and balls and I especially liked
the rain window that flipped over on one side of the dome. However,
the best part for me was the ‘helter skelter’ slide that you can
roll the balls down. It goes along the outside and inside of the
tent which is confusing at first, but brilliant fun once you get
the gist of it.
This is a wicked thing – my family calls it the Pleasure Dome -
but they’re a bit crazy. I was so excited when it arrived at my
house because it looked so good and the box was really big! My favourite
thing is the balls (5 – one is blue with a smiley face – my fave)
and they have a “helter skelter” which they whizz down. The best
thing is to post them in and then get Caro to catch them at the
bottom and hand them back to me so I can keep the flow going. I
also think the light is hysterical and looking through the coloured
windows is weird man!

CONSTRUCTION

Xander’s views

My mum put this together in record time. Usually she
takes a while to figure things out and has to ask dad for help but
this was a breeze. The dome comes with poles that you slot through
the holes in the fabric which click together to make it sturdy. I
got a bit over-excited when we first put it up and knocked it out
of shape a few times but I think that’s probably because mum didn’t
slot the poles in as tightly as she could’ve done…
Easy peasy, but my Mum’s quite good at stuff like this.
I quickly got the hang of what bits go where so I am now quite helpful
as it gets folded away each night at our house otherwise it takes
up too much room. I give my dome a bit of a kicking every now and
then and do drag it around a bit when it’s not in quite the right
spot, but so far it’s held together very nicely and we are all very
impressed.

VERSATILITY

Xander’s views

Babies
from around 12 – 24 months will love playing with this as it’s so
bright, colourful and interactive. I’m going to be 2 in a few weeks
time and although I still like to hang out in my discovery dome, I’m
usually in there playing with my cars or reading a Noddy book. It
also makes a great little den for me and my friends.
My Dad was really unimpressed with the whole idea of
the dome, but has come around to it because he’s seen how much enjoyment
I get from it every day. I play with it by myself and with Caro and
Sandy – everyone finds something different and silly to do. Now that
the sunny weather is here, I like having my dome up in the garden
and using it as a goal for football practice. The dogs also hide in
it when I’m being a bit noisy. I don’t think I’ve got bored with it
once.

PORTABILITY

Xander’s views

I like nothing more than pushing the dome into different
corners of my room so I don’t think it can be very heavy. I also noticed
that mum and dad managed to pack it up very quickly so it’s easy to
use too. The dome comes with four big orange feet that you can stand
it on, but I found that these got in the way a bit (especially when
trying to move it around the room) so mum took them off for me.
Good – its gone in the boot of the car a few times
when I’ve been to visit Granny and Grandpa. It folds down easily enough
every night and all the bits and pieces can be stored easily to keep
everything together – useful as those cheeky balls do tend to have
minds all of their own.

QUALITY

Xander’s views

I’ve
got a lot of use out of this and it’s still as bright and sturdy as
it was the first day I played with it. My dad’s not a big fan – he
doesn’t like plastic toys and says ‘they all look cheap’ but I think
the fact that it’s lasted so well has started to change his mind.
The balls and keys have been thrown down the stairs more times that
I can remember but they still look as good as knew…how they escaped
the usual scuffs and scratches I shall never know.
Excellent – it’s been folded up more times than all
my clothes and still looks fab. My Mum busted one of the poles when
she fell over the dog one day and Tomy replaced it and had a good
giggle at her expense! I did too. Everything is really well made and
has survived everything I’ve done to it (so far) but I don’t think
it would take too well to knives or matches – you have been warned.

VALUE FOR MONEY

Xander’s views

At £39.99, I think this is a good investment that will
last more than one little person like me. It’s provided many hours
of enjoyment for me and my friends and I think it offers great value
for money – especially for families who have multiples and enjoy lengthy
games of peek-a-boo.
I have been testing my “Pleasure Dome” for 5 months
now (since I was 18 months old) and I think that it was quite clear
that 39 pounds worth of play value, and certainly immense pleasure,
was had in the first 72 hours! However, it’s not been a white elephant.
No jokes, I’ve dragged this thing out almost every morning for the
last 5 months and demanded to play with it. Buy it? I’d buy shares
if I had any money – the thing’s a winner.
