Books for Dads

Make this Father’s Day extra memorable and find a book that the special
man in the family can enjoy and keep as a reminder of his fatherhood.

My Dad Can Do Anything
Author: Stephen Krensky

This
is a great book to give Dad on Father’s Day. Obviously written for young
children, it nevertheless gives Dad a brilliant opportunity to sit and
read with his toddler. This heartwarming story tells how strong and brave
Dads are, from climbing the highest mountain to swimming to the bottom
of the Ocean. All children think their dad is the best and this book encourages
that feeling. Definitely one to make Dad feel extra special!

A Perfect Father’s Day
Author: Eve Bunting

A
charming story of little Susie who treats her Dad to the perfect day out.
It’s soon obvious that all the special activites are Susie’s favourite
things but her dad thoroughly enjoys himself anyway, not least because
he is spending time with his daughter.

The simple story and colourful pictures make this a great book for Dads
to cuddle up with their children to read. The message is clear, “A
perfect Father’s day needs the perfect Father”. A feel-good book
that will bring a smile to any Dad’s face.

this book is full of special stories, rhymes and fairy tales to make you
an expert in the things your parents knew. It includes simple activities
to do with your child as well as easy but enjoyable recipes. Although
American, this book would be a thoughtful and welcome gift for any Dad,

Raising Boys: Why Boys Are Different – and
How to Help Them Become Happy and Well-balanced Men
Author: Stephen Biddulph

An
easy, light-hearted read, this book is written in a chit-chat style which
my husband really enjoyed. In 10 short chapters the author covers great
everyday scenarios of male behaviour and offers explanations for why the
human male behaves this way ranging from biological to hormonal to social.
Dads can relate to a lot of what is said on a personal basis, especially
as the author is writing from his own experiences. This book covers everything
from toddler tantrums through teenage moodiness and into adulthood.

A bit cheesy in places but this is more than made up for by the sound
advice given by the author on coping with the little man in your life.
Photos and comic cartoons add an extra dimension to the book as a whole.

Secrets of the Baby Whisperer:
How to Calm, Connect and Communicate with Your Baby
Author: Tracy Hogg

For
any exhausted new dads out there, this book is a definite must-have. The
author is a mother herself as well as a midwife with over 20 years’ experience
which she brings into this book. Hailed by some as a miracle worker, the
Baby Whisperer shares shrewd observations and little gems of advice that
even experienced parents might not have worked out.

Many Dads feel that they don’t have the same instinctive reactions that
a mother has but this well written and easily read book helps you recognise
what your baby wants. Possibly the most helpful and popular section is
where the Baby Whisperer divulges her secrets for interpreting your baby’s
body language, signals and cries.

With a quiz where you can determine your baby’s personality, including
“Angel”, “Textbook”, “Touchy”, “Spirited”
or “Grumpy”, the author suggests ways in which to handle each
type. The book covers most topics in a sympathetic, reassuring style and
is truly a beautiful book for Dads (and Mums) everywhere.
