Visiting the coast is not just about buckets and spades and sand, all year round the sea and beach offer children an exciting place to explore.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, East Sussex

01797 227784 A flat and open area with a network of footpaths.
Guided walks, four bird-watching hides, an Information Centre and
regular family events.

Bracklesham Bay Beach,

West Sussex A pretty location great for fossil hunting. At low
tide the gently sloping, sandy beach is ideal for young children.

Wirral Coastline

0151 647 6780 This runs from Seacombe Ferry to West Kirby. It is
on the whole flat and car free, making it ideal for cycling. There
are sand dunes and many opportunities for watersports along the
way. At low tide you can walk from West Kirby to Hilbre Island Nature
reserve in the mouth of the Dee estuary.

Lepe Country Park, Hampshire

02380 899108 Home to a variety of wildlife, much of the park is
an attractive coastal strip with beaches, picnic areas and walks.
There is a children’s play area and information centre.

Fort Victoria Country Park, Isle of Wight

and woodland walks and ranger-led guided walks. Vantage points for
watching the Solent’s boats and shipping.

Land’s End, Cornwall RSPB Wildlife Discovery Centre

01392 432691 From this cliff-top location, look through the powerful
telescopes and, if you are lucky, you might see dolphins or even
a basking shark.

Lulworth Heritage Centre, Dorset

01929 400587 or www.lulworth.com The area is world famous for
its geological features. Learn about the formation of the Cove,
from its famous geology to its wildlife.
