Maria is beginning to come through the incessant nausea she’s
been feeling in the early weeks of the pregnancy, but she’s still
always dead tired.
Evenings inevitably follow a pattern of dealing with Sam’s needs,
a hastily concocted supper and an early trip to bed. The weariness
Maria feels is contagious.
She comforts herself with thoughts of next week, when she’s off
to visit friends in Ireland with Sam.
This week is no ordinary week either as it ends with a treat as my
job takes me to Paris, and I’ve suggested to her that she comes too.
With baby sitters for Sam arranged (in the shape of her sister and
brother-in-law) it’s a welcome break and a time to discuss what lies
ahead.
How will we cope with a newborn baby AND a mischievous 19-month-old
toddler ? When should Maria tell her office about the pregnancy ? Can
we sneak a holiday in before the big day ?
Some fine Parisian brasseries make pleasant venues for these
discussions. No firm conclusions are drawn however… apart from the
brilliance of French cuisine!
