Diary of a dad-to-be: week 19

The combination of pregnancy and a tough workload at the office are
making Maria increasingly tired. Evenings at home are hardly exciting
at this point !

After seeing to Sam’s needs and having a quick meal we generally
“slob out” for the rest of the time in front of the TV. The
antics of Nurse Hathaway in ER, trying to cope with bringing up
twins, provides some irony as a relaxing interlude…

working as a parental partnership at this most important of times. A
visit to a work colleague bringing up a nine-month-old baby on her
own, following a split with the father, puts our travails into
perspective.

The baby girl, cute as she is, is proving to be a real handful.
Every night, we’re told, is disturbed and daytime provides only very
brief respites. It’s as though the child can sense all is not as it
should be, despite benefiting from an adoring mother who is doing all
she can.

We reflect, on the way home, how difficult looking after Sam would
be if one of us were to be absent.
