Diary of a dad-to-be: week 28

It’s important for Sam to begin to get used to having a baby
around, so the visit of his six-month-old cousin Jamie is timely. For Maria and myself is quite nostalgic to see a little fella lying on the floor looking up at us, for Sam it’s fascinating.

From this evidence it seems he’ll be a model big brother, as he gently caresses
Jamie’s tiny fingers, time will tell, though.

We begin to think in earnest about how we’ll accommodate the new baby after he or
she arrives. We have three bedrooms in the house so there’s no problem with space.
Décor and furniture are the main considerations.

We resolve to move Sam into the current spare room as it seems pointless,
and time-consuming, to attempt a double re-decoration when we have a ready-made
nursery.

The week ends with a blissful spell of weather, so we go to a family-friendly pub for
lunch with one of Maria’s friends. She has a couple of teenagers – now
that’s a whole new ball game by the sounds of it! We’ll need a dozen years to
prepare for it!
