Do we need health insurance?

Private health insurance covers part, or all of the cost of the private

treatment of medical conditions. By ‘going private’ it is possible to
bypass NHS waiting lists and get treatment faster. But when you are pregnant
or have a new family do you really need this?

We are fortunate in the UK that the NHS provides excellent emergency treatment.
Although there are some differences between regions, on the whole, treatment for life
threatening conditions is given speedily and there is good, specialist treatment for
children. However the NHS does not perform so well when it comes to non-life threatening
(but still distressing) conditions. Waiting lists can be long, and private care can speed
up the time it takes to get treatment.
