Practicality is your main consideration when choosing flooring. A luxurious pastel coloured pile carpet will not remain clean for long, while highly polished boards can be dangerous.
Twist carpets in darker neutrals make a good choice. Wood laminates or sanded floorboards can be made more comfortable with a bright rug. Special non-slip mats can be bought to put under rugs to prevent accidents.
There are fitted carpets available which feature children’s motifs such as footballs and cartoon characters but these are usually made of inferior synthetics. If you can afford it, go for pure wool or a high-wool content since it is easier to clean and will look good for many years.
