You can help prevent accidents by ensuring all glass in the house is safe. Consider using:
- Safety glass – if you’re having new glass put in always choose safety glass, especially for internal or patio doors. This is toughened glass that rarely breaks but if it does, shatters into small cuboid pieces which are relatively harmless.
- Safety film – to protect glass doors which aren’t made from safety glass use safety film – a self-adhesive, transparent film that prevents glass from shattering when it breaks. It can also be used on windows, coffee tables or any glass surface
- Transfers – these are useful on large areas of window to remind children that the glass is there and prevent them from walking into it
