Happy at work? Survey says no

HAPPY AT WORK? SURVEY SAYS NO

JUGGLING family life and a career is a struggle for 93% of working
mothers, a survey has found.

The research found that the vast majority of working mothers worry that they are
emotionally damaging their children and risking their own health by working.

A total of 5000 UK women were surveyed, with results including:

  • many working mums feel overworked, underpaid and at breaking point from stress, causing
them to shout at their kids
  • 75% think career stress affects their health
  • women feel they get little support from bosses or their partners
  • 80% of working women do most housework and childcare arrangements
  • just 6% have access to a workplace crèche
  • many women believe female colleagues are their worst enemies in the workplace
  • nearly three-quarters said men were lazier than women at work
  • 80% said they would quit if they didn’t need the money.

The survey, carried out for Top Santé magazine, exposes the superwoman
lifestyle, combining workplace success and happy family life, as a myth for many women.

Virgin boss Richard Branson was voted the boss for which women most wanted to work,
followed, a little surprisingly, by Michael Parkinson then Chris Evans!

Cherie Booth
was voted most inspirational working woman, followed by Carol Vorderman and Judy Finnigan.

Who has inspired you, and would you want to work for Chris Evans or Richard Branson?
