Hero dad saves son

13 January 2000

A DAD who took a first aid course eight years ago has saved the life of his infant son.

Steve Lockyer, of Cardiff, his wife Ann and their four children were flying to Florida from Gatwick, the Western Mail and Echo reported today.

Mr Lockyer had been caring for one of their twin 11-week-old boys, Sam, when his wife ran up the plane to say the other twin Adam was not breathing.

He managed to bring back Adam by giving him an enormous breath, then, as another passenger with paramedic experience arrived, Adam stopped breathing.

He had to be revived a third time as the plane was diverted to Manchester to take Adam to hospital.

Doctors found that the oxygen levels and high pressure on the plane may have affected Adam, who had a chest infection. His twin Sam developed the same infection while the family were at the hospital for Adam, although the whole family has now returned home.
