Most babies get a sore, pink bottom or nappy rash now and again. But some babies are prone to nappy rash despite being kept clean and dry and it can become very painful if left untreated.
The most basic nappy rash creams contain zinc oxide and soothing oils. Others may
contain products such as benzalkonium chloride and cetrimide which may themselves cause
skins reactions in some babies.
If nappy rash persists, see your doctor, as your baby may have a bacterial, fungicidal
or candida infection such as thrush, which needs a specific cream prescribed by your
doctor to clear it up.
