News: Cancer charity prepares to launch Yummy Mummy week

The UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent,
is calling on women across the UK to join together in a bid to raise £100,000
for children with cancer and their families.

The first ever Yummy Mummy Week is sponsored by Honda and
Avent and will take place between 16-25 September.

Supported by broadcaster Alice Beer, the event is encouraging
women to get together with family, friends and other mums to have some
fun whilst raising money for the charity.

CLIC Sargent was formed in January this year when two cancer
charities joined together to become the largest children’s cancer charity
in the UK.

CLICCancer and Leukaemia in Childhood which was founded
in 1976, in the South West, by Bob Woodward, following the death of his
young son to cancer; and Sargent Cancer Care for Children which was founded
in 1968 by Sylvia Darley OBE as a lasting memory to the late Sir Malcolm
Sargent.

The charity provides individual support to children and
young people with cancer and leukaemia and their families

Mother of two year old twins, Ms Beer says, “Yummy Mummy
Week gives you the perfect opportunity to get together and celebrate life,
laughs and being a mother, whilst raising money to help families who have
a child with cancer.

“It’s an easy way to raise money for such a worthwhile
cause and enables mothers to have some fun at the same time.”

Every 48 hours, ten children are diagnosed with leukaemia
or cancer in the UK and 7 out of 10 children and young people diagnosed,
will survive.

However, the charity warn that cancer is still the largest
killer disease in young children.

They also say that survivors of childhood cancer face major
challenges of on-going side effects and discrimination.

They are committed to improving the survival rate of children
diagnosed through specialist care and by funding both clinical and social
research projects.

It is hoped that Yummy Mummy Week will help raise £100,000
for CLIC Sargent to continue its work.

Backed by the slogan ‘every mum needs some fun’, the week
is encouraging women to register their interest and get an event pack
with everything needed to hold a fun get-together.

Registration is online at CLIC
Sargent
or by calling 08451 206 658.

The charity is also selling exclusive friendship bracelets
designed by Jade Jagger and available online or from Gap stores.
