of whom 1,000 a year (3 a day) will die before an organ becomes available.

has kicked started a countdown to their first multi-media UK-wide organ
donation campaign on 2nd November, to encourage the country to sign up
to the Organ Donor Register. Louisa McGregor-Smith, 2-year-old heart transplant
recipient, dressed as ‘Dorothy’, gave a heart to 33 ‘Tin Men’ (famous
for needing a heart in The Wizard of Oz), to highlight the fact that at
least 33 people who need a transplant will die between now and the launch.
