Organ donation – Save the Tin Man

More than 10,000 people currently need an organ transplant in the UK
of whom 1,000 a year (3 a day) will die before an organ becomes available.

Just one donor can help up to nine different people. NHS Blood and Transplant
has kicked started a countdown to their first multi-media UK-wide organ
donation campaign on 2nd November, to encourage the country to sign up
to the Organ Donor Register. Louisa McGregor-Smith, 2-year-old heart transplant
recipient, dressed as ‘Dorothy’, gave a heart to 33 ‘Tin Men’ (famous
for needing a heart in The Wizard of Oz), to highlight the fact that at
least 33 people who need a transplant will die between now and the launch.

A viral game has been created, based around the Tin Man. You can
upload pictures of you and your friends and watch the characters
doing the ‘Tin Man’ dance.

More importantly you have the opportunity to sign up to the Organ
Donator Register – so what are you waiting for! Click on the link
