“She started off my massaging my lower legs with an orange cut in half! Very cold and refreshing, something very much needed what with the extra weight you carry whilst being pregnant. ”
I am: Fiona, 26 from Hessle, East Yorkshire. I am 28 weeks pregnant with second child.
I went to: Waterfall Spa in Leeds
I had: A day pass for the spa, a Mum to be ’100 Pillows’ massage and a facial.
My day: I decided to let the train take the strain and arrived at Leeds station with just a 5-10 minute walk to The Waterfall Spa.
The exterior has large glass windows and doors and looks very posh. The Spa is ladies only.so you can feel completely comfortable wandering around. Once inside I was shown to the changing room and shown how to work my locker which contained a dressing gown and 2 towels to use throughout the day, plus a pair of complimentary fluffy slippers (very comfy) and a plastic drawstring bag to carry stuff around in. My therapist left me
to change and then came back to give me a tour of the facilities.
She showed me round the small, yet perfectly formed Spa telling me which
rooms were which. The treatment rooms all have names of waterfalls above
them so you don’t accidentally wander into one whilst someone else is
having a treatment. She showed me the Relaxation Boudoir that consisted
of circular and semi-circular beds concealed behind beaded curtains. These
were piled with magazines and had individual lights so you could relax
and either read or sleep as you desired. Next she took me to the wet area
of the Spa which consisted of the Hydrotherapy Bubble Pool, which I could
go in so long as I stayed away from strong jets; the sauna – no go for
pregnant women; the aromatherapy steam room – I was surprised when she
said I could go in, so long as it was only for a few minutes at a time;
and the experience shower, a combination of either very hot or very cold
jets or both. I was then taken to the cafe/bar to choose my lunch and
given a complimentary drink.
After a quick session in the hydrotherapy pool and a relax on a lounger
I was collected for my facial (which I had booked separately). I climbed
onto the bed and relaxed as she massaged my face and applied all sorts
of lotions and potions to it including cleanser, toner and moisturiser.
She then put cream on my eyes and some heavy cotton wool pads and left
them there for a few minutes before gently wiping it off. It left my face
feeling clean and relaxed.
I then relaxed some more and read a magazine before a visit to the steam
room and a trip in the hydrotherapy pool. It was then time for lunch which
consisted of squid in tempura batter to start with followed by a chicken
and asparagus dish with tomato and mozzarella salad, finished off with
a gorgeous chocolate pudding. I have never been so full in my life! I
started to wonder how I was going to manage a massage after all that food!
After another quick dip in the pool I decided to go for a lie down in
the relaxation boudoir and read some magazines. After a while I was collected
for my massage. I lay down on the massage table on one side as instructed
under the huge, soft brown towel. I was then given a pillow for under
my head, arm and bump, one for between my knees, and two at my back and
behind my head. It was so comfy to be encased in all those pillows. She
started massaging my back and arm before moving onto my bump (she had
checked I didn’t mind bump massage beforehand). She only used a carrier
oil incase any weren’t safe in pregnancy. She then held the towel up for
me to gracefully roll onto my other side! She repeated the massage on
my other side, which was so relaxing I fell asleep! I was just about to
start snoring when she spoke to me! Grrr! It was time to go on my back
so she could massage my legs. When she had finished massaging my legs
she applied a warm cream to my feel and wrapped them in a towel, which
made me think about a mummy! My arms and head were then massaged and I
started to drift off again. She finished off by calmly unwrapping my feet
and wiping them off. I felt so relaxed I could have stayed there all day!
After the massage I sat in the bar sipping ice cold water – thirsty work
this relaxing and being pampered! I then retreated back to the Relaxation
Boudoir and read some more magazines before heading off for a shower and
checking out at 5pm.
Treatments: Day pass for Spa; Mum
to be 100 Pillows Massage – 85 mins; Mini Facial – 30 mins
Cost: Day Pass (£75); Massage (£85);
Facial (£35)
Verdict: I had a wonderful relaxing
day and felt wonderful afterwards. I had no idea I would be able to fill
7 hours doing nothing but being pampered! I would definitely go back if
I can persuade my husband to pay! The prices are quite expensive, but
worth it for a special occasion.
