Baby cord clamp

cord1.gif (12746 bytes)The clamp that was put on your baby’s cord before it was cut will usually be left in place for two or three days, then removed. The cord stump is yellowish, and it may bleed slightly. Your midwife will show you how to keep it clean. If it becomes infected your midwife may suggest other ways of cleaning the stump. Around the end of the first week, the stump shrivels and turns black before dropping off.
