Nicola Malcolm is fed up with children’s menus in pubs and restaurants, which encourage our children to eat rubbish
“Children’s meals in pubs and restaurants are encouraging poor eating habits..”
Sometimes all that is on offer are fish fingers, sausages, chicken nuggets or shapes or pizza, all served with chips and beans.
Well, my daughter will eat other things including chilli and rice, curry, fresh fish, mashed or jacket potato. If you ask for anything out of the ordinary they look at you as if you are mad and then can’t find the button on the computerised till for your selection. Some even have the cheek to try and charge extra for having something that is not on the menu. Even asking for a child’s portion of an adult meal is met with confusion as children are expected to eat rubbish; at least I have not seen those turkey twizzlers on a menu!
Why should we feed our children a diet of deep fried food that all looks the same with no variety? How are they supposed to develop a taste for other foods or how are we to tackle the ever growing obesity problem in our younger population.
Whilst we don’t eat out a lot, we feel that it is important for our daughter to learn how to eat in restaurants and wait for a meal and eat properly and have good table manners – which is a whole new rant!
