The shape
Holly’s hand tends towards what is known as The Spatulate shape, because the palm of the hand is narrower at the base and wider where it joins the fingers. The fingertips are also spoon-shaped or spatulate. The characteristic of the Spatulate-handed person is one of creativity, denoting someone who is dynamic, energetic and confident; always into things. The spoon-shaped fingers love to touch things, to feel the world to which they belong and,
if possible, to mould and shape whatever aspect of that world.
Holly will get many of her impressions of the world around her through her sense of touch. She is not being naughty when she wants to handle everything; this is how she learns. This is the hand of a little person who has lots of drive and ambition; she will want to have lots of adventures where she can touch and feel whatever is around her.
Children with Spatulate hands will rarely grow up to be conventional. These are characters who love to be daring and are often found at the cutting edge of new ideas and inventions. They also love to break the rules.
The thumb
Holly’s thumb is of good size and length in relation to her hand, showing someone who is intelligent and tenacious. The wide angle between her thumb and the rest of her palm is indicative of a strong personality with true characteristics of individuality and resourcefulness. She will need strong guidance in her early years to make sure that she does not become too strong-minded. Making sure that she has a role model to emulate will encourage her to go in the right direction.
The mounts
The mounts are good and well padded, showing someone who has a good life force and goes out to meet life rather than sit and wait for things to happen. Her Venus Mount is high and large, indicating someone with a good energy and appreciation of the physical pleasures of life. Those with a high Mount of Venus love food, luxury and home comforts. They also have
a good aesthetic appreciation of surroundings. When this mount is high and well padded it shows a good constitution and strong vitality. She should have good resistance to disease and plenty of joie-de-vivre.
On the opposite side of Holly’s hand, her Mount of Luna is well formed. This mount relates to the unconscious, the imagination and to strong intuitive abilities. There is also a slight ‘bump’ on the edge of this mount, showing an adventurous spirit.
The lines
Holly’s Life Line sweeps well out in to the palm of the hand. The wider the sweep, the more vitality. The narrower the sweep the more there is a tendency to a lacklustre approach to life. Holly has plenty of gusto!
Her Head Line is clear and straight. This is someone who ‘likes her head’ and goes straight for what she wants. Also, note that Holly’s Head and Life lines are separate at the beginning. This is a sign of a very independent character. It is yet another indication of someone who will not like toeing the line.
Holly’s Heart Line heads towards the space between the Finger of Jupiter and the Finger of Saturn, showing someone who will have quite a well balanced disposition regarding her emotional life.
There is a nice, well formed and strong Fate Line in Holly’s hand. This line is sometimes referred to as a Career line, as those who possess it have a sense of their own destiny and are often driven from an early age to a particular calling. Holly’s Fate Line proceeds towards the Finger of Saturn, denoting inborn sense of duty or sense of destiny. She may have a subconscious desire to do something unusual or worthwhile. The latter formation, coupled with the wide angle at which Holly holds her thumb from her palm, could indicate that she has the potential to achieve something out of the ordinary.
The fingers
Her fingers are short in relation to the length of her palm. This indicates a quick and decisive mind. Spontaneity, if not impulsiveness, is indicated here: she will not suffer from procrastination or indecisiveness! The length of the fingers in relation to one another are textbook perfect. There is a nice space between each finger, which shows a gregarious nature
and an outgoing personality. Hence the expression ‘open handed’; these characters are inclined to give away their time, their thoughts, their money or their feelings.
The base phalanges of Holly’s fingers are quite fat and are the largest of the phalanges of each finger. This indicates someone who is a lover of the physical. It is often an indication of someone who would be a good interior designer. This is supported by the lines Holly has under her Apollo or ring finger. The Apollo finger symbolises creativity and lines under it indicate a good eye for things. It could be for form, colour or aesthetics generally.
Holly also has parallel lines under her Mercury finger. These are referred to sometimes as ‘Samaritan Lines’ as those who possess them are good listeners and have empathy and sympathy for others.
Generally, Holly’s sense of purpose and her love of comfort may sometimes be in conflict. But the overall impression of this hand is one of generosity, big heartedness and great creativity.
Possible careers for Holly
Interior designer, fabric designer or gourmet chef, because of her love of aesthetics and her ‘touchy feely’ nature. Having her own hotel would fit the bill on all counts as she could design it herself, offer wonderful food and home comforts and throw in a bit of listening (Samaritan lines!) when required.
Because she has a predominately Spatulate hand, it would be best for Holly to always be self-employed or freelance. She needs to be able to assert her creative side in her own inimitable way and will not easily be told what to do.
Sam’s feedback
I was quite amazed by the overall accuracy in Anne’s reading. Holly, indeed, is generally a very confident child, although she will hang back a bit in groups until she has found her feet. She certainly has a wilful nature and hates doing as she’s told. While you can argue that many three-year-olds possess this quality, she has always had it in spades and to this day will always insist that she does everything herself, getting frustrated and upset when she finds there are some things she does need help with.
She does have a very creative streak in her, always making up songs, stories and drawings of things she’s seen, heard and remembered. She’s active from the moment she wakes up to the moment she goes to bed, hardly ever flagging. Sleep seems to be an irritation to her, stopping her doing what she wants to do.
The only thing that didn’t ring true was the food part. Anyone who knows me and Holly will know that she drives me to absolute distraction with her refusal to eat much of anything. She’s averse to trying new food but also seems genuinely distressed at combinations of food; for example, strawberries are fine, ice cream is fine, but mix the two and she’ll freak out. I couldn’t help an incredulous laugh at the idea of her being a gourmet chef but you never know; although she doesn’t like eating food she may love cooking it!
