Heidi and Jasmin share their swimming fun!

Swimming with your babyMum of two, Heidi Speed, from Bridport in Dorset, believes that having water births and attending regular baby swimming classes have resulted in her children being more happy, confident and relaxed in the water.

Heidi first took her daughter Jasmin to baby swimming classes when she was 7 months old. Now almost a year later Heidi and Jasmin attend regular Water Babies classes together in Weymouth and next month Heidi’s son Zak, aged 6 months, will also be starting at Water Babies. “Like his sister, Zak absolutely loves being in the water” Heidi explains, “at the moment we take them swimming as a family so we’re really looking forward to Zak joining Water Babies too!”

Heidi had water births with both Jasmin and Zak and now they are both very relaxed in the water, whether it’s in a swimming pool or the bath, “My husband and I both took Jasmin on holiday when she was 5 months old and it was then that we realised how much she loves being in the pool” says Heidi, “it’s so important for our children to be happy, safe and confident in the water”.

Attending the Water Babies classes have really helped to increase Jasmin’s confidence around water and it’s a great chance for her and her husband to bond with their child, “My husband has taken Jasmin to the classes a few times and it’s lovely to see them together having so much fun!”. Heidi also explains that they try to put Jasmin’s water skills into practice in everyday situations, such as in the bath, or by encouraging her to demonstrate her ‘tiger arms’ which she learnt at Water Babies.

Heidi sometimes visits public swimming pools with the whole family but admits that she prefers the warm hydrotherapy pool used at Water Babies, especially for Zak as he’s still quite little.  With Zak joining Water Babies next month Heidi will be bringing either her husband or mother along to help. “I think the Water Babies classes are a great way for parents to meet other local parents in the area and the other mums who go are all lovely,” Heidi explains.

Heidi and Jasmin continue to swim with Water Babies.
