The no-frump bump Tip of the Month : May 2012

Pregnant lady with an umbrellaNe’er cast a clout till May is out’, my Granny used to tell me. She knew I’d made big mistake packing away my thermals & getting my skimpy summer dresses out earlier this month. It was an optimistic burst of excitement when we had that little bit of sunshine before Easter. Oh, she was so right. What a mistake-a to make-a, as they say.

I’m looking out the window at soggy showers and can feel a rather miserable chill in my bones. Sigh. So, with that in mind, May’s tip-of-the-month for a stylish pregnancy is:

In Britain, our weather is capricious. Fact. And, at the same time, during pregnancy your body temperature may fluctuate wildly.

So, while many women find they can feel pretty hot, pretty quickly, sometimes you also want to keep your arms covered up, or just to keep that pesky British chill out. It’s very smart therefore to put together a wardrobe where you can easily adjust the temperature.

Maternity black wrap cardiganChoose clothes from a good quality modal or luxury jersey viscose and then layering will still keep you looking sleek (avoiding the lumpy bump look). Find yourself a little chic cardi that can be easily popped on and off. Check out the Perfect Wrap from Babes with Babies for a simple sling-on layer – or find a light but stylish little cardi that can sit above the bump, bolero style.

And an obvious one – pregnant or not, why not treat yourself to a really fab umbrella? It’s worth buying yourself one that makes you smile.  So even when it’s bucketing it down, you can feel cheerful – and dry. A very practical purchase!
