Allergies and intolerances: soon to be the UK’s most prevalent health epidemic

SneezingIt is said that 18 million people will develop an allergic condition at some point in their lives (40% of school children included) and that 30 million live with food intolerances (almost half the population). The rapid growth in allergies and intolerances within the UK population gives credence to the notion that this is one of the most significant health epidemics that we face today.

This leaves the UK with having one of the highest allergy rates in the world but a large majority of UK residents are left feeling widely ignored and misunderstood, with the issue being swept underneath the carpet in the medical world.

It is therefore no surprise that this year’s Allergy & Free From Show (18-20 May) hit London’s Olympia by storm. The record number of visitors (up by over 3,000 on last year) proved that not only are these conditions becoming more widespread but that patients are taking it upon themselves to seek out free from solutions.Allergy + Free From showsThe Allergy & Free From Show is designed for those living with allergies, intolerances, auto-immune diseases (such as coeliac disease), hayfever, chemical sensitivities, eczema, asthma, other related respiratory and skin conditions, as well as those who care for them.

The show was a one-stop free from shop, where visitors could discover the latest products and treatments (available to try and buy); attend seminars packed with useful information; use expert 1-2-1 consultations to seek out help and advice from leading Consultants and specialists; plus attend cooking classes, live demonstrations, workshops and support groups.

With these conditions, and the show’s audience, ever increasing, it is time for the show to spread its reach… and it is starting up north!  For the first time ever The Allergy & Free From Show will be making its way up to Liverpool on 27-28 October.
