Baby being sick (3 posts)

    Hi amber,

A quick question, my son was born 6 days and I am breastfeeding him. I have noticed, occasionally, after some feeds that he will be sick, however the milk will come out his nose. It doesn’t seem to bother him and it’s not a lot of milk but I was just wondering if this is something I should be concerned about?

Someone had suggested reflux to me as a cause, but the baby is not unsettled and feeds fine.

    Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I am not an expert but I wouldn’t worry if he isn’t distressed. Both mine were great pukers! My son had reflux which caused him quite a bit of pain which he let me know about very loudly! If he isn’t bothered by it then I wouldn’t be, but it’s always worth mentioning to the hv! Good luck xxx

    Hi Jacq,

Often the reason for a baby being sicky is that they’ve taken in a bit more feed than they really had room for and the excess is just coming back out again. Or they bring a bit of milk up with some wind. If being sick isn’t troubling the baby, and they’re otherwise thriving, then it isn’t really a problem, other than in terms of all the washing it can create! Some babies are just a bit sicky. But speak to your midwife or health visitor if you’re concerned.

    Amber
