Hi, was looking for some advice on whether it is safe for me to have any sort of pain killers as I have been suffering with ear ache all day. I am 10 weeks pregnant.

Also, if I arrange to see a doctor, do you think they would be likely to prescribe any anti biotics if it’s an infection?

hi – sorry if this is too late, but you can take paracetamol during pregnancy. i remember having tonsilitis when i was early pg with ds no2 and had to have antibiotics but that was 9 years ago and things change so much so wouldnt like to say for sure. you could also try a warm flannel, see if that helps.

Sorry to hear about your ear ache. As Claire has said, there is no evidence that taking Paracetamol in the recommended dose stated on the packet causes any harmful effects during pregnancy. I would advise that if it doesn’t seem to have improved by tomorrow, or seems worse, that you see your GP. It may be that you have an infection and need some antibiotics. There are antibiotics that can safely be taken during pregnancy so try not to worry. A warm flannel or water bottle/wheat bag may also be soothing in the meantime. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks very much for the advice claire and amber, i’ll take some paracetamol and hopefully that will do the trick x
