Hi Amber I’m currently 5+2 with baby number 3.. I had an accident an hour or so ago I fell down the stairs.. I’ve moved 80miles away and need to register with my local Gp… I’m scared… I don’t want to miscarry. I cant go accident and emergency until tomorrow a there’s no one to watch the kids (nearest family is back home 80miles away) and hubby’s away on his cousins stag do. I’m frightened an my pelvis is hurting (the side) any advice is much appreciated as I’m panicking. If god forbid I do end up loosing this baby.. How long will it be until I know?

    Hi Taliyah,

So sorry to hear you fell down the stairs. Try not to worry though. At this stage, your baby will still be quite small, and will be nicely tucked up in your uterus, which will still be very well protected within your pelvis. Just try and rest as much as possible until you start to feel better. If you have any very sharp or continuous pain, or fresh red bleeding in the meantime, then do contact the emergency GP.

Thank you Amber, I ended up going to A&E as I was in agony. They scanned my kidneys ect and all is well. I had a small bleed whilst at the hospital the dr did what i can only describe as an internal? She checked to see if my womb was open? Thankfully it was closed she couldn’t tell me where the bleed came from. They have arranged a scan for Sunday the 3rd of June il be 6+5 (going by my LMP) what am I likely to see? Will I be able to see baby’s heartbeat?

I had a scan at 6+4 and all you could see was sort of a smudge and a little flicker. I would think the reason they are doing another scan is to check for the heartbeat. I had a scan at 5 weeks for a suspected ectopic and all they could see was the sack in the right place and so I needed the second one at over 6 weeks to check for heartbeat

    Hope this helps

    Hi Taliyah,

Sorry to hear you were in agony after falling down the stairs and you experienced a small bleed. Spotting or light bleeding is actually something which is quite common in early pregnancy, and so long as it is not heavy and bright red, and accompanied by pain, it is also unlikely to be a cause for concern.

The baby will still be very small at around 6-7 weeks but if your dates are accurate, it is sometimes possible to see a heartbeat after about 6 weeks of pregnancy. I really hope all goes well on Sunday and you get some reassuring news. All the best.

    Amber
