Protein in urine (2 posts)

  • Avatar Image rhfiasco said 3 months ago:

Hi im 7 weeks pregnant and went to the docs today as I have been suffering from constant vomiting and dizzyness, I cant even keep a glass of water down. She said there was protein in my urine and I have to go back tommorow and possibly be admitted, I was just wondering what any of this means? She also wants me to have an early scan to rule out (im not sure what it was a really long word). Also she prescribed me a tablet for anti sickness that I have to take on a night, are there any risks with this? Thank you.

    Hi,

Sorry to hear about the constant vomiting and dizziness. Protein in your urine can be a sign of a urine infection. Are you sure it wasn’t ketones in your urine she mentioned? Ketones are produced when you burn fat as fuel from your stores. This happens when your body doesn’t have enough readily available glucose i.e. if you haven’t eaten enough recently or have been exercising heavily.

As for the anti sickness tablet, there are a few that are considered relatively safe during pregnancy, so it’s likely that you have been prescribed one of these. If you’ve any questions or concerns though, it’s best that you go back and ask your GP.
