VBAC2 Possible? (2 posts)

    Hi,
I have two beautiful DS which were both delivered by EMCS. My first was due to fetal distress after being induced. My second, was due to my DS being in occiput posterior position (both my babies were in this position?!). My body started pushing at 4cm & I had to have an epidural to stop the urge. I eventually got to 9cm after a long and slow labour but he wouldn’t turn & they said I would need to have another CS :(
My DH & I have been discussing having another baby & I’m just wondering how likely it will be that I will be able to have a vaginal delivery? I have always felt ‘unsatisfied’ that I have never been able to have a baby vaginally & I hate the recovery after a caesarean when all I want to do is concentrate on being a mum, especially when I’ll have 2 other children to look after too.
Sorry for the long post! Any help is appreciated! x

    Hi,

Although a lot of people assume that once you’ve had one caesarean, and especially more than one, you’ll always have to have one. This however is not in fact the case. Although it’s not always medically possible, in your case, you should still be able to have try for a VBAC this time. Although there is a small risk of uterine rupture with a VBAC, this risk does not increase dramatically if you’ve had more than one previous caesarean. Statistically, you are more likely to have a successful VBAC if you’ve had a vaginal birth at some point in the past, but a number of women who’ve not had a vaginal birth do have a successful VBAC. Babyworld has some more information about VBAC here you might like to read: http://babyworld.co.uk/2011/10/vaginal-birth-after-caesarean-vbac/. All the best.
