    Hi all,

I posted on the ask a midwife forum yesterday as I think i may have thrush on my nipple and I want to continue breast feeding my 4week old son.

I went to my GP today and have come away none the wiser. I have a buning/itching sensation in my right breast when my son feeds and also after, along with sharp pains, th burning/itching sensation is also starting in my left breast. My son doesn’t have any signs of thrush in his mouth but he does have a very nasty nappy rash.

I explained my symptoms to my GP, he didn’t examine my nipple or anything, he prescribed clotrimizonole (excuse the spelling) cream for me to apply. I asked if my son would need treated too and he said no as there was no sign of thrush in his mouth, is this correct a I have read conflicting info about this and also should I throw out any breast milk I express until the thrush ha cleared?

Any information anyone could provide woud be great!

    Thanks,
    Jacq

Ow! It’s so painful! When I had it I was told to treat both myself and my son as otherwise you keep on passing it backwards and forwards to each other.

I got something called Nystatin from my doctor on recommendation of my local breastfeeding counsellor. She also suggested I didn’t express milk to store for a few days.

    Hope that helps. x
