The best double pushchair for a baby and toddler combo!
Mum to 2 boys, aged 5 and 1, I found out I was expecting again and realised with dread that I would have to get a double buggy. I did loads of research though, and am really happy with my purchase of the Baby Jogger City Select, I definitely made the right choice.
I got it in Amethyst (gorgeous purple) with 2 seat units and the purple carrycot. Not only does it do all of the seat combinations shown in their adverts, it also does a few more that I discovered by accident! It is very easy to put up, you just lift the handle and it folds out, and equally easy to fold down as you just stand in front of it and lift it by the middle hinges, done. A major plus to this pushchair which I didn’t realise until I was using it, is that you can still fold it up with the car seat adaptors on (I had a Bugaboo Cameleon with DS2 and you had to take off the maxi cosi adaptors before you could fold it up). Not only that, but you can still fold it with the second seat rods on. Not only that, but if you have the seat rods on at the bottom, and the maxi cosi adaptors on at the top, you can leave BOTH on and still fold the pushchair! It saves me so much time and hassle on the school run with 3 kids to be able to take off the carrycot/seat/car seat (depending on what combo I’ve gone for that morning) and fold it up without having to mess about with adaptors and rods, I just leave them on, pop it in the boot and off we go. (I have a Ford S Max by the way, obviously you’ll need a big boot for a double pushchair.)
Other plus points? Easy to push, very easy to extend the handle bar, very easy break positioned up on the handle bar, massive shopping basket which is nice and stretchy at the sides, compatible with the maxi cosi car seat, lovely colour options (if like me you hate putting a baby in black), and a really cosy carrycot.
The shopping basket collapses when you fold the frame, so if you’ve left anything in there beyond a hat or a muslin, it usually drops out when you fold the pushchair, something I hadn’t anticipated so it’s handy to know. But I see it as a positive, because I no longer push a load of rubbish around with me because I haven’t got around to emptying it, I used to find all sorts of random stuff under my old buggy and could never find what I needed. With this, I keep a well stocked large changing bag with spares for all 3 children and nappies for the 2 younger ones, and the whole bag fits easily in the basket.
I bought the rain covers, but have never had need to use them yet because the hoods come right forward and when my son is in the City Select footmuff, when I pull it up and his hood down he is completely enclosed! We got caught in a heavy shower last week and the water just runs off the fabric. I have tried the raincovers on and they fit over easily. (I should add the footmuff is good value for money and fits well on the seat, although it is annoying that the zip is a single and quite hard to pull up and down with the weight of a child on the base because the zip is in the base of the seat rather than on the top if that makes sense.)
There is only one negative to this pushchair, and that is going up kerbs with 2 children on it, it’s very heavy to tip up. But I think any tandem pushchair is inevitably long and heavy. I have now perfected the technique of leaning over the handlebar to put all of my weight on it so tip up a kerb (something I probably couldn’t have done if I had just had a C-section). Having said that, I hardly ever need to, most kerbs these days have dropped edges for crossing and I head for those. The weight is better when the heavier child is in the top seat, not low down at the far end, so I try to always have my toddler up high and that really helps. It is actually a pleasure to push on flat paths, copes no problem with the gravel path across the field in our village, and steers easily through the z-bend staggered fencing at the end of the footpath. Plus, I can take it into the shops without any issues, not always possible with a side-by-side double pushchair.
The seat units are impressive – bucket styled, so really comfy, great hood that comes far forward with a magnetic viewing flap, easy to recline without disturbing my toddler as there’s a handle to lift on the back of the seat and it just tips back. The straps are really good, didn’t let me down when he had the biggest ever tantrum the other day and writhed around for 10 minutes trying to escape – he couldn’t! There’s also lots of room to make them bigger, very easy to strap in my boy even with his big winter coat on. They clip on above the shoulders at different height positions and are really easy to adjust. My 5 year old can also fit in the seat unit and still has lots of head room!
I really can’t fault this pushchair, they have thought of everything. So I will end this review by adding that I have had so many compliments about this pushchair, random people come up to me in the school playground and tell me how much they love my pushchair!

About the reviewer: Mother of 7 month old twins
Short Title: Great pram
Review:
I have just got the baby jogger city select and I think it is great. I have 7 month old twins. With this pram I can get in places I cant with my Baby joger mini city. It is heavy to tip up curbs but that is the only down side I have found up to yet. I wish I had known they were bringing this pram out befor my girls were born.
