Teething and illness
The symptoms of teething are now known to be extremely mild. But…
Teething aids
Teething gel
After using dentinox teething gel in the past to ease my daughters teething pain, I was more than happy to give the toothpaste a try.
The first benefit I found to this toothpaste was the finger brush that comes included in the box. After a lot of struggles with a standard toothbrush I thought this would be much easier to use, as it appears less intrusive.
When using the toothpaste for the first time the first thing you notice is the scent of the cloves that are used. I know these are used as a numbing agent and I decided to try this on myself. I didn’t feel any numbing sensation but this could be due to the a reduced amount acceptable to children.
My daughter seemed to enjoy the different taste of this toothpaste and didn’t mind the finger brush, although I think I would stick to normal toothbrush going forward.
Overall this is a good alternative to the standard flavour toothpaste, I don’t have any conclusive evidence that this toothpaste actually helps with teething pain relief

Dentinox Teething Toothpaste.
When I opened the box was impressed with the little finger tooth brush. This makes the product a lot easier to use. My little one is not a massive fan of her tooth brush (makes a bit of fuss) but she didn’t seem to mind this. I didn’t particularly like the smell of the tooth paste but having tasted a small amount myself it didn’t taste too bad. I started using the toothpaste on her the day we got it. When I tried it myself my first thought was that it would have a mild numbing sensation having clove oil in it, but I can’t say as it had that effect on me. She has had 2 bottom teeth coming through and I know they have been troubling her, so I had hoped that this tooth paste would ease her discomfort. After a week of use I have to say I’m sitting on the fence with regards to it’s soothing abilities. I don’t know as it helped a lot but she seemed to quite like the taste so I am happy to carry on using it. I would urge and parent with a teething toddler to give it a go. I would consider buying another tube. The product was good quality.

We all know the importance of cleaning our baby’s teeth as soon as they start to come through but trying to get near my daughters mouth when she is teething is near impossible! We have previously used Dentinox teething gel on her gums which we found worked well so we were more than happy to give the toothpaste a try.
As soon as you take off the lid you can smell the clove oil in the toothpaste which I thought might put her off but it didn’t and she was more than willing to give it a try. Included in the box is a small fingertip toothbrush which fits over your index finger to clean the teeth with. Unlike traditional toothbrushes the bristles are made of soft plastic. Using a small amount of toothpaste you massage it in circular movements on the baby’s gums and teeth. Amelie was not too keen on the brush, there are quite a lot of bristles on it compared to a traditional baby’s toothbrush and where a brush handle is quite slim in her mouth my finger isn’t and this made her gag! Her reaction was to bite down and little teeth are very sharp! I did try with the brush several times but it was not very successful. I think having something that large in her mouth which she had no control over made her panic so we decided to use the toothpaste with her normal brush.
The toothpaste is sugar free and contains fluoride and clove oil. It doesn’t taste like traditional toothpaste but the taste was not unpleasant and Amelie didn’t seem to mind it. Having previously used clove oil myself for toothache I expected it to make my tongue feel a little bit numb when I tried it but it didn’t. Given that it is a teething toothpaste I expected it to feel different. Amelie was quite happy to let me brush her teeth with her normal toothbrush and she didn’t mind the taste but I am not sure that it did anything to help with her teething.
Having used the toothpaste for nearly 2 weeks I am not sure it has any more benefits than normal baby’s toothpaste. It did a good job of cleaning her teeth but unfortunately didn’t help with the symptoms of teething and given that it is considerably more expensive than normal toothpaste I wouldn’t change to it.
