I use this cot every night as baby is in our room and didnt want a big bulky cot taking up a lot of space or a permanant fixture. This product is fantastic, my son sleeps soundly in it. The electronic features are good, night light, music and especially the vibrating feature, which has come in handy a few times. Easy to put up and down, clean and looks lovely. had lots of positive comments on it from other parent friends who have seen it. My version has the changing table feature which is great at night.

About the reviewer: mum of Elsie, 8 months
    Short Title: Fiddly, but fab!
    Review:
Recipe for disaster: take one very overdue and frustrated almost-mum, add in her patient, but almost at her limit mother, mix in some very confusing instructions, many different sized poles and wires and heat up to the temperature of the hottest day in June. Three hours later, you MAY emerge with something resembling a travel cot.

It probably wasn’t a good idea to try and put the Graco Contour Electra together on a very hot day whilst 12 days overdue, but I had to find some way to pass the time! Three hours later, when my mother and I finally got our heads around the very poorly written instructions (more or less just pictures that don’t make a lot sense), what we had was something rather lovely.

When Elsie finally came into the world, she was very happy to lie in her polka-dotted cot (with the bassinette put in), lulled to sleep with the vibrating mattress and the sound of water trickling or birds chirping (it plays lovely classical music or nature sounds). It was very handy in the early months when her nap times were short and irregular to be able to put her down to sleep in the living room instead of trudging upstairs.

I also found the changing mat invaluable, as again, I didn’t have to keep going upstairs to change her (many, many) dirty nappies. I used it till Elsie was about six months old and the raised sides of the mat made sure she couldn’t roll off. It was also quite useful to store nappies and wipes underneath.

Now that she is too big for the bassinette, the cot still lives downstairs but has been converted into a playpen and toy storage area. The mesh sides mean that I can see what Elsie is up to and she can see me (which seems to be quite important these days) and the sturdy construction means that even her best attempts to rock it over do not work.

We have used it as a travel cot for a few weekends away – we again found putting it up and taking it down a bit fiddly, but we’ll eventually get our heads around it. Elsie slept really well, both in the bassinette and in the lower position, so the mattress must be quite comfortable. Bringing the electric music module meant that she could have some familiar sounds in an unfamiliar place. I found it fairly heavy when folded up and definitely wouldn’t want to lug it anywhere without a car, but I think it’s a pretty standard size.

The night light is fairly dim and we haven’t really used it, though when Elsie is older she might like it. It took a while for her to notice the hanging toys, but she seemed to like them, though it might be better if they face downwards – they seem fairly cheaply made.

It is best to buy this before birth or when your baby is newborn, otherwise all the extras are more or less useless, but most of the features have proved very useful so far. I would definitely recommend this cot, but would suggest choosing a day when you have a lot of time and a partner with a lot of patience when assembling it!

    Short Title: Great long-term buy!

We bought this travel cot before our son was born as we travel quite a bit and you never know about hotel cots!!

Its fairly easy to initially put together although the electronic bits require batteries and this was a bit fiddly.

The basinette is brilliant and really saves you back during the early days! We used the cot in the living room and our son slept very soundly in it but the mattress is quite hard in my opinion! You can get fitted travel cot sheets from Mothercare.

The extras sound great and I really love that kind of stuff but to be honest we dont use them! The toy bar is rubbish and the light is very dim. The lullabies were cute in the first few days but once the batteries ran out we haven’t replaced them. More for parents benefit then babies and the vibrating mattress is quite scary!!!!!!!!!!!!

The changing station is ok but your baby will grow out if it quite quickly and I preferred a changing mat on the floor for downstairs nappy changes……

Having said that its a fantastic looking cot and several friends have commented so if you’re planning on having one up in your living room its a good buy. Seems quite sturdy so would be a good playpen later on……..

About the reviewer: Mum of 3, youngest aged 7 months.
Short Title: A good first bed for baby, good alternative to a crib.
    Review:
We bought this cot before Izzy was born as we didn’t have room for her big cot in our room. We intended for her to sleep in the bassinet as we don’t like Moses baskets(had one for the older 2, but neither of them ever slept in it!).
I found it tricky to assemble initially but it was nice and sturdy once it was up. I was disappointed to find it wouldn’t fit through a standard doorway, as I’d envisaged moving it around during the day so Izzy could nap in it. She ended up sleeping in her carrycot during the day when she was tiny.
I bought a travel cot mattress as I thought the existing one a bit flimsy and it still dipped in the middle after a few weeks. Still, Izzy seemed happy and slept like a dream.
I liked the mesh sides,as I could clearly see Izzy through them while I was in bed.
As for all the ‘extras’, we didn’t particularly like the black toys on the bar, so I cut them off and attached some nicer ones. Not that Izzy noticed when she was tiny. We found that she liked the music feature, and the vibrating mattress attachment really did seem to soothe her. However, this cot is quite a lot more expensive than the more basic model, and I don’t think the extra features justify the extra cost. Even so, I’m glad we had this cot and we’ll continue to use it for years as either a travel cot or playpen.
I found the changing station really useful, although DH said bending over it made his back ache.
We took it on holiday when Izzy was 4 months, and we’d dispensed with the bassinet by then. It took up a lot of space in our car but was easy to transport and Izzy enjoyed sleeping and playing in it. Her favourite thing was to make a horrible scratchy noise on the mesh with her finger nails!
Izzy slept in the travel cot for until she was around 18 weeks but by then we thought she was getting too heavy for the bassinet so we moved her into her big cot.
This cot is a good all rounder and has some nice, although not essential, extras. It’s a lovely design and seems really well made. I would recommend it to anyone, whether for occasional use or for a newborn to sleep in from birth.

About the reviewer: Mum to Beth, a cheeky little escapologist who likes nothing better than trying to escape from wherever she is put down (including these travel cots, which now have a head sized indentation where she’s tried to push her way through).
Short Title: Lots of extras, great for newborns.
Overall Verdict: Best if you buy it before baby is born and use it regularly, perhaps downstairs or in your room once baby grows out of the crib. Very sturdy and excellent quality means you could continue to use it as a playpen.
Best Feature: Modern design, well thought out extras.
Worst Feature: Initial set up is quite fiddly.
    Tested for: 5 weeks
    Review:
Ease of use/construction & fold: I found the initial set up a bit fiddly (e.g. snapping the changing unit together got me a nasty skin pinch), but this is otherwise easy to put up and down in the basic form. The bassinette requires a bit of fiddling each time and must be removed to fold the cot up. The instructions are reasonably easy to follow but it does take practice.

Portability: Easy to move around when put up and folded thanks to the wheels at the front of the cot. It comes with a special carry bag so you can pull it along behind you, however, it is quite heavy to lift in and out of a car. If you are going away for a few days and have a bit of room in the car, it’s fine. It is a ‘standard’ size of the traditional travel cot when folded. You wouldn’t catch me on a plane with it though!

Versatility: This cot can be used as a play pen as it has mesh sides, so you can keep an eye on any mischief that is afoot. A good changing station that simply unfolds and rests on top of the cot is included, although Beth is nearly too big for it at 5 months. For newborns, a vibrating bassinette is included. I wish we’d had this when Beth was smaller, reaching right down into our travel cot when she was a newborn was not good for the old back!

Comfort/Quality: Excellent quality. Has a nice soft mattress – you cannot feel the ‘joins’ in the mattress as you could in the older style Graco cots. Has a very modern shape and a smart pattern and colour. Can be wiped clean and it will last a long time, although there are other cots that are longer in length so better for taller babies.

Overall verdict: If I was looking for a cot before a baby was born, this is the one I would go for. Otherwise, I think a lot of the features would quickly become redundant and you would have to find a place to store them e.g the bassinette and the changing unit, in which case you would be better off saving money and going for a more basic unit. This would make an ideal stopgap if you wanted your baby to remain in your room. Once they’ve grown too large for their crib you could use it downstairs for naps and playing.
