A first for nappies, the Wetness Indicator is a line on the front of Huggies® Newborn nappies which alters colour from yellow to blue when wet, indicating at a glance when the nappy is damp, avoiding unnecessary checks and disturbing baby.

Huggies are a great brand and this nappy is no different. I love the attention to detail: the little half circle cut out so that the nappy doesn’t rub baby’s umbilical cord stump, the leg barriers to keep the sloppier poos contained, the stretchy waistband to ensure a comfortable fit, the velcro tabs that you can refit over and over again – all of this is such good stuff and shows that real thought goes into these nappies.
They are nice to the touch, the cotton feel is good and it must be better for babies bums.
However, the ‘wetness indicator’ I’m not so sure about. The idea is a good one, but I don’t want to waste nappies just because my baby has done one little wee in it. As Huggies are so good at locking away the wee and keeping baby dry that would be truly wasteful.
So what I’d like to see is a ‘time to change’ indicator! Much more helpful and environmentally friendly.

I have been a huggies fan for a while and this new wetness indicator is another feather in their cap.
Other newborn nappies that we’ve tried have had flaws that make using them inconvenient.
The huggies nappy are nice and soft and the wetness indicator is a great addition. I found it particularly useful at night, after a feed i could undo a few poppers look at the indicator and only change if needed. My little man hates night time bum changes and this handy little addition means no more un-necessary crying cause he has a cold behind. I also found because he wasn’t upset he was quicker to resettle which meant I got more sleep.
During the day i found the indicator great for avoiding leaks, a quick look and change can save a load of washing too.

The concept of the wetness indicator is a good idea, however I found if you changed a nappy based on this alone you would be changing a nappy alot more than usual.
I also found that i still felt the nappy to see if it needed changing due to the indicator changing colour as soon as the baby had ‘weed’ once! When used over night my baby had leaked at about 5 in the morning so switched brands for night time. I dont find the indicator useful enough to switch to this brand permenantly.

I was a little wary of changing to huggies as I have always used and loved a different brand but I really love these nappies. The indicator made night time changing easier as I discovered I really didnt need to change as often as I thought. As a result my little dude is now sleeping right through because im not worried and disturbing him. My husband also found very useful when he was left holding the baby and was at a loss as to why baby would still be crying until it was obvious to him thanks to the indicator. No leaks and comfy for baby make these a good all round product.
