We used this product on our 18 month old son. He has had swimming lessons since he was 7 months old so is already comfortable in water. They were quite easy to put on but maybe on an older child would be quite tight.
The middle of the bands comes out and he enjoy playing them. They positioned him well in the water and gave him freedom to move about on his own. So we could all enjoy being in a deeper pool, without having to hold him all the time. He could also join his older sister jumping in and splashing about.
As your child progresses a layer can be removed, this is a great idea but in practice as the layer cannot be replaced, it is hard to decide when the correct time to remove a layer is, and the product can then only be used for one child which makes it rather expensive.

Compared to inflatables this product is quite bulky and takes up lots of space in the swimming bag

If your child is a nervous around the pool the book that accompanies the armbands is a lovely way to in courage them to get wet, and their progress can be recorded on a chart.

Overall the Monkey Swimmers are a fantastic idea and in the pool are superior to the traditional style armbands, but out of the pool are less convienent and maybe the layering could be developed further to enable multiple child use, or replacement if removed too early.

I have to say Me and my daughter absolutely love the monkey swimmers armbands. They make swimming an absolute dream. Their very easy to use and allow so much movement as their so slim.. they really do improve swimming techniques. The whole idea of taking away away layers to reduce the bouyancy is fab – my daughter loves removing themherself giving her that little bit of confidence and independance. I have tried the Delphin armbands but i found them expensive, bulky and really restricted movement. I completely recomend monkey swimmers armbands to others.

The biggest pro has to be the fact that they can help to teach your child to swim though the removal of the foam layers. I can’t verify yet if they will help my son to swim as he has only used them twice. he is aged 23 months and has been going to the pool with us for over a year with the support of a swim ring and we have tried bands before and swim floats. I am hopeful that if they don’t hurt his arms as they where quite tight to get on, and he continues to use them, that in the coming months and years ahead they will help him to learn to swim.
They are tight fitting and there is not much chance of them slipping off your child’s arm in the water.
They are also fully recyclable which is good for the environment.
The accompanying book is a good way to encourage your child to use the arm bands as it actively involves them in the decision to learn to swim. We both enjoyed looking at the book together, but feel he will understand the book more when he is older.
They are quite slim line so they don’t get in your child’s way when they are trying to swim. Unlike some inflatable arm bands.
You get to keep the inner cut-outs that are star fish shaped to use as floating toys in the bath.
The cons I have found are that once you remove a foam layer to decrease the buoyancy the layers cannot be put back on again. This I’m afraid is my biggest con about the product. I don’t like the fact that because of this they cannot be used if we have another child. Also, I would worry that I would remove a layer and then decide my son did in fact need it after trying them out I’d be stuck with arm bands that didn’t provide the correct amount of buoyancy for him There are no instructions explaining how to tell when a child is buoyant enough to remove a layer.Maybe it is easy to know when they are ready but as I have never taught a child to swim before I don’t really know what to look for to indicate that he is becoming more buoyant. It would be nice to see some more guidance on this within the Monkey Swimmers box.
Overall I think it is an ingenious product, maybe aimed for the over twos as the child could interact more with the story, and a parent may have more confidence that a child could communicate with you if the they had the correct layer on for their swimming needs.
I feel the mum who has designed this product has done a lot of research and created a colourful and well put together story, chart and of course the bands however I feel they should be aimed at an older child than my own.

Short Title: great product, a couple of niggles though
    Review:
I was super excited to get these bands to try with my little girl. She is a real water baby and has been attending swimming classes since she was 5 months old. She currently swims in class with muscles which are a similar idea to these.

The bands arrived in a funky box with a lovely story book too. The centre of the bands are removed prior to putting on your child and they can be used as a floating toy in the water- pool or bath. They are also great for printing with!! The bands are colourful and appeal to children. These are a way to teach your child to swim as layers can be removed as your child gains in confidence until they can swim without them.

    Downsides to product-
The biggest downside by far is that once a layer has been removed it appears that it cannot be put back on if your child needs it again (if you remove it too soon) or if you wanted to reuse them for another child in the future. A big disappointment to me. Value for money has to be marked down for this purpose.

There are no instructions or guidance in the box as to how to remove layers or info on when to remove them either. So all a bit of guess work which has to be right if you are removing the layers that appear not able to be replaced. We have not yet removed a layer- although we feel our daughter will have no problems with one less layer yet but the fear of removing a layer before she is 100% ready lies uneasy in our minds. If we remove a layer too soon then we cannot undo that and in essence the bands become less functional until she develops skills for the next level!

We do love the product and our daughter has a lot of independence in the water with them as they provide a good level of support. They are bulky to pack in a swim bag but the additional space they take is well worth it for what it provides our daughter in the water. I would recommend them to others, my little lady loves them!
