It was the first ever designed to stimulate milk flow in a way that closely mimics the suckling action of a baby. There is simply no gentler, faster or more natural way to express milk.

The secret behind Philips AVENT Breast Pumps is the patented Let-Down Massage Cushion. This soft silicone cushion has five oval ‘petals’ that gently massage the area around the nipple as you pump – just like your baby does when feeding – stimulating the let-down reflex. By lightly pressing the handle, you can also adjust the suction power to the perfect level.

What is included: Breast pump body with handle, silicon cushion, Natural bottle 4 oz, Extra soft Newborn Flow Teat, Funnel cover, Sealing disc and Breast pad sample pack.

I thought this was fantastic value for money. I found this pump easy to use and comfortable. This pump came apart easily to wash and to sterilise, and was easy and simple to put back together.
This pump is small enough to put in your bag if you need to express away from home.

I would definitely recommend this product.

I am a new mum to 9 week twins and express some milk every day. This is so that each twin can have a bottle, on alternate nights, given by the father. I have an electric pump but found this manual pump convenient and easy to use when needed.

I find that it is also particularly useful when one breast becomes slighlty engorged to remove some of the milk, since I am tandem feeding and encorgement of one breast sometimes occurs in the morning.I also have nipple shells to collect extra milk at this time.

I am clearly very fortunate to have a high milk yield and don’t need to store extra milk in the freezer but I would definitely use the pump more frquently if this became necessary. The pump could be used out and about if need be during the day or at work.

The pump is comfortable, simple to use and easy to clean. I would recommend it to a friend but also suggest the need for an electric pump if a lot of milk is to be expressed.

The pump is good value for money and a reputable brand.

  3. I’ve always been a little scared about the idea of breast pumps as it seemed all a bit unnatural to me, and a brings to mind thoughts of a dairy farm, but when I got offered the chance to review this one I was curious, particularly as it’s called the AVENT Natural Breast Pump – clearly just the product I have been waiting for! I was initially slightly overwhelmed as the box seems to have a lot of information on; they’ve really tried to cram it all on there, from instructions to quotes from other Mum’s telling you how great it is! However, once you separate it all out it’s actually pretty easy – I would recommend just looking at the pictures as they make everything very clear and concise, particularly if you’re still suffering from ‘pregnancy brain’ as I call it (in other words not functioning on all cylinders!).
I was surprised by how comfortable it was to use, as I’ve heard some real horror stories, but then I can’t imagine anything being as bad as those first few agonising seconds when your baby latches on to you for a feed each time. The cushions inside the pump made it quite easy to use and I was even able to relax into my chair with a good book for few minutes!

Now that I am a bit of a pump convert I can see the benefits – you’re child still gets to feed on your milk whilst you’re able to give your poor old body a rest every now and then, and it means that your partner can help out with those early feeds, so no more excuses about getting up in the middle of the night! If you’re not keen on feeding in public either you can express enough milk beforehand to see you through the day. The kit comes with everything you need as well so there is no need to carry around loads of extra things in your nappy bag.

Here is my breast pump story….

Being one of the last of my friends to have a baby, I had heard many a horror story about breast feeding but how it is so much better than bottled milk for the growth and health of the baby. Which is all well and good if you are at home all day long. But, for us ladies who return to work while the little one is still in need of feeds, there needs to be an alternative.

The Avent Comfort Breast Pump was recommended to me for all the pros of breast feeding without the discomfort. The active massage cushion helps extract the milk softly and you get to do it in a reclining position rather than leaning forward to help it come out. What is really great about the Avent kit is that everything you need comes in one pack with clear instructions, leaving nothing to chance or practice. It also covers emergencies when you might need to express out of the house as it fits in your handbag!

One of the other things I feared about breast feeding are having to do so when out and about with the baby. I have seen women in coffee shops and on the bus breast feeding and while I know it is perfectly acceptable, it is not for me. Avent is the perfect middle ground between breast feeding and going on with your life being prepared for anything.

With my first son I had a truly horrendous time whilst breastfeeding and I found it very difficult and very painful. I had slight tunnel vision about it all and refused to consider using formula or a breast pump to express. Consequently I struggled through a miserable six months of feeding and vowed never ever to do it again!

I am now breastfeeding my second son successfully and I have brought a pump. I have to say the pump has transformed my life. Hurrah! Being able to express means I can slope off to bed early leaving my husband to do the dream feed allowing me to catch up on much needed sleep. Plus, I can now leave my son with friends and family and go out for a few hours or even an evening. Being able to give my son a bottle should also make the transition from breast to bottle easier. My older son refused to take a bottle of any description and it took a very long time to wean him off the breast. It also meant that it was impossible to go out for any length of time as no one but I was able to feed him.

I was given an Avent sterliser as a leaving present from work so I decided to choose an Avent pump. I’m very pleased with my choice as it is easy to use and soft on the breast and nipple. The soft silicone petal attachment helps to stimulate the let-down reflex, encouraging milk flow and supply. It does take a while to get the hang of expressing but I love the fact that it is essentially one system. When you’ve finished expressing you just take the pump off and add a teat and you’re ready to go.

Another bonus is that as my son gets older I can buy handles and different teats to turn the bottles into sippy / trainer cups.

As a second time Mum who had numerous problems with breast feeding the first time round, I welcomed any product – in this case the AVENT Manual Breast Pump from Phillips – which held promises of making feeding easier, and less painful, for me and my baby this time.

As well as suffering from extreme pain I spent the whole time worrying whether or not my child was not getting enough milk, but being a firm believer in giving your child breast milk, if possible, I didn’t want to bottle feed.

This breast pump allows me to still feed my baby breast milk, be reassured that he’s getting enough and is so comfortable, thanks to the cushions in the pump funnel, I no longer dread feeding time.

Now this is not the first breast pump I’ve tried, but I found that the constant leaning forward in order to get the milk to drop into the bottle is time consuming and painful. However, with this one the aforementioned cushion massages you to help stimulate the milk, meaning that it’s easy to get into a really comfortable position and let the pump do all the hard work!

The kit itself gives you everything you need – pump, bottles, teats etc. – and comes with really clear instructions, making it easy to assemble, use and disassemble for sterilizing. It’s also small and neat which makes it easy to store and carry around in your bag.

I’m really pleased that I’ve found such a great product, which whilst it will never make breast-feeding a pleasurable experience for me, certainly makes it a lot less daunting. I would recommend this product to any mum who has experienced problems in the past with feeding. It’s also perfect for the busy mum who is going back to work but still wants their child to benefit from breast milk.

Breast pump is light in weight. All parts are a reasonable size so it can be easily broken up for sterilising and put back together. This is a big bonus as some pumps have small bits that can be quite fiddly to put back together especially once sterilised.

The fact that its manual pump and that its small means that its good to take on holiday. You can also pump anywhere ie you don’t have to make sure you are near an electrical mains supply. I found this beneficial as I have also been using an electric pump.

The pump funnel has a cushion in the funnel this makes it look kinder to the breast but makes it also more comfortable as it is softer than hard plastic which most other pumps have. This is good when you first start pumping and the demand supply cycle hasn’t established as this can make the breasts quite sore and tender.

The disadvantage is that you do need two hands: one to hold the pump and one to activate the pump. Your hands get tired and get cramp. However this would be the case with all hand pumps.

I think its good value for money. You can use it if you want to pump long term or as a trial before investing in an electric pump which is much more costly.

It’s tough being a first time Mum. There’s all sorts of expectations and opinions on breast feeding. I felt thoroughly overwhelmed with all sorts of differing opinions banded about by family, friends, health visitor etc. Thankfully, I seemed to be one of the lucky ones initially. Feeding my little one was relatively stress-free (though I know it’s not that easy for everyone). The problem came when I had to return to work. Of course I wanted to do the best for her but there wasn’t an option to take her to work and there certainly wasn’t an option to keep nipping home to feed her. So I had to take a look at the options out there and breast pump seemed the best way to go.

I tried the Avent Comfort Breast Pump which claimed to be one of the more comfortable ones on the market. You can express in a reclined position, so you can try to avoid yet more back ache. There’s an active massage cushion which helps the pump feel warm and natural on the breast. Because it’s not too stressful an experience, milk does seem to flow quite easily. It’s obviously not quite the same as breast feeding but it’s not a total replacement, I can still go home and feed in the evenings and in the mornings before work. It’s a great option for working Mums. I was quite daunted by having to express this way, but it wasn’t as horrific an experience as I anticipated. Though leaving her in the mornings is tough. At least she seems not to mind at the moment. Am dreading once she gets a bit older!

I was really pleased to receive the Avent products to review, as I am breastfeeding for the first time and I was unsure what brand to go for and not sure about using a pump.

I found the breast pump very easy to use, it felt gentle and soft on my chest, which is a bit sore at the moment! Once I found a comfortable position I started using the pump to express my milk. It felt a bit odd to begin with as you do get a rather different sensation to your baby, but once the milk started to express and the bottle started filling it was actually very reassuring.

One of the things I worry about is not knowing if I have enough milk for my baby and expressing gave me that reassurance that I am actually producing enough. Once I had finished I put the teat onto the bottle and gave my partner the chance to feed his baby for the first time. It was lovely to be able to give him that opportunity.

The bottles and pump are easy to clean and feel nice to hold. I quite like the look of the products as they are clean and hygienic looking. The pump is light and handy to use and it has given me the confidence to express my breast milk.

Good value for someone that is a first time breastfeeder and not sure which brand to buy.
