We have Platypus boardshorts, sunshirt and sunhat from the Sonic Waves range, in the four-year old size, and I’ve been really impressed. My 3 year old son is very, very fair (ok, he’s ginger) and I have to be super-careful of him in the sun. The shirt has a high neck which protects without being irritating, and the hat is about the only one I can get him to wear. It has a nice wide brim that protects the back of his neck even when he doesn’t have the sunshirt on. He’s also spent the last spell of hot weather basically living in the board shorts as they’re much cooler than normal pants-and-shorts. They wash really well too, and dry extremely fast. The whole lot appears very well made – I’m sure these will survive to be passed on to his younger brother. The sizing’s on the generous side too – my four-year old (who normally wears size 5-6 clothes) can wear the kit too without looking ridiculous.

All in all I’m very happy with this outfit and it’s definitely been great for peace of mind during the blazing sunshine we’ve had – I find it reassuring to SEE that the kids are protected – something that sunscreen doesn’t offer (plus I hate putting chemicals on their skin). Expensive but worth it.

I’ve nothing but good things to say about this range of kids sun protection garments.
As children get older, it seems to become harder to source UV protection wear but Platypus’ range fits kids in to their teenage years. My average height but very slim 7 year old daughter has the Louts print sunshirt and the empire swimsuit which she loves for the design as much as I do for the practicalities. We got the size 8 and they are a perfect fit, it’s definitely worth looking at the size guide chart before ordering. The straps on the swimsuit are adjustable which is very handy as I can see it will probably fit her in to next spring too. While the prices are probably above the average for kids sun wear, I still consider them value for money as they are of such a good quality and look lovely too. I will follow the garment care advice and imagine they will last and last. I’m considering purchasing the matching hat now. Definitely recommended!
